China is one of ParisTech priorities for international cooperation since 1998.

Academic partnerships

Since 2000, ParisTech has developed partnerships with 12 of the best Chinese universities.

Each year, the so-called "9 + 9" program" allows around 60 top Chinese students to pursue an engineering degree in ParisTech schools after completing a Bachelor degree in China. Nearly 1,200 Chinese students have benefited from the 9+9 program in the past 20 years, and obtained an engineering degree from one of the ParisTech schools.

In addition to the "9 + 9" program, since 2008, ParisTech schools have implemented double degree agreements with the Chinese universities best ranked in ParisTech schools’ fields of excellence. This dynamic has intensified in recent years, with 12 of the 29 Double Diploma agreements signed within the past 5 years. Since 2013, 164 Chinese students have been accepted in these Double Diploma.

Several specialized double master degree programs have been created with Tsinghua (Environment, Energy), as well as an Executive MBA with Tsinghua.

Sino-French Institutes

In 2010, ParisTech and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology won a European Commission tender for the creation of a Sino-European Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) in Wuhan. Each year, the institute recruits between 70 and 90 Chinese and international freshmen at master's level.

In 2012, ParisTech and Shanghai JiaoTong University jointly opened a school inspired by the French Grandes Ecoles model. SPEIT recruits between 80 and 100 freshmen each year, and delivers a challenging curriculum, based on the French preparatory classes and engineering schools’ programs. Upon graduation, students are granted a Bachelor and Master degrees from Shanghai JiaoTong University, as well as the title of graduate engineer.

In September 2017, Chimie Pékin, the third Sino-French Institute lead by a ParisTech school opened its doors. Chimie ParisTech - PSL coordinates this Institute, that associates several schools of the Gay Lussac Federation and Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

China Scholarship Council (CSC)

ParisTech has been collaborating for over 20 years with the CSC as part of the "9 + 9" program. Each year, this cooperation allows around 50 Chinese students admitted into the "9 + 9" program or a Double Diploma program to benefit from a CSC grant during their two years of study in France.

In 2011, a new agreement was signed to create a doctoral program to allow Chinese Master students to pursue their doctorate in one of ParisTech schools’ laboratories with funding from the CSC. This program is very successful: since its opening, more than 134 doctoral students have joined a laboratory at ParisTech schools and benefitted from 36 to 48 months scholarships.

Permanent Office in China

ParisTech has had a permanent office in Shanghai since 2000. The Chinese permanent office:

  •  Liaises with academic and institutional partners, companies, and the alumni based in China.
  •  Promotes the actions carried out by all ParisTech schools in China.
  •  Is the contact point for students, teachers and researchers involved in exchange programs at ParisTech schools.
